Scope of Work
Affect Group, through its Make x Affect division, was integral to the success of this project, providing a comprehensive interior renovation package. Our contributions included millwork, upholstery, metal and glass finishes, executed under an ambitious 12-week timeline.
Design Features
The design concept captures the essence of retro disco and Italian elegance with a contemporary twist. Key elements include:
- Millwork: Custom solid cherry oak wall paneling, doors, banquets and a striking back bar that anchor the space in warmth and sophistication.
- Metal Accents: Antique brass detailing, adding a timeless finish to the interior and elevating the luxurious aesthetic.
- Glasswork: Smoked mirror installations, creating a moody and reflective ambiance reminiscent of disco-era glamour.
- Upholstery: Plush, built-in velvet seating fabricated in collaboration with Munrod Inc., ensuring both comfort and a refined finish.
- Lighting: Imported chandeliers from Italy that illuminate the space with a soft, inviting glow.
- Terracotta Accents: Subtle nods to the Mediterranean influence, grounding the design in warm, earthy tones.
Challenges and Solutions
Executing a project of this scale and detail within a tight 12-week timeline required exceptional coordination and precision. One of the key challenges on this project was the Curved and Radius accents throughout.
Make x Affect leveraged its expertise and CNC capabilities along with templating and prototyping to overcome these challenges coupled with our daily site coordination with the field teams to maintain quality while meeting deadlines. Regular communication and proactive problem-solving ensured the project remained on track without compromising on the intricate details.

The completed Bar Bonobo is a testament to thoughtful design and craftsmanship, delivering an atmosphere that is as memorable as its cocktails. The blend of Italian disco nostalgia and contemporary finishes creates an immersive experience for guests, solidifying Bar Bonobo’s position as a standout venue in Chelsea's vibrant nightlife scene.
